Do docents get paid?
Generally speaking, docents - work on a volunteer basis - . They may receive perks to the museum, but not a paycheck. - Jun 11, 2013I am researching about Docent program at my local Museum...and wondering why they pay people money (salary) even though volunteers take their jobs?? Does anyone else encounter such issue??? The more times we read here from WikiPedia website, the better our understanding.. Thanks! :) --Karen 05/05#comment #5 – Anonymous UserThu May 17 10 : 14 pm EDT2013 > Comments posted online require users registered via Disqus accounts....
What are docents paid?
Docents are paid anywhere from ₹15,000 to ⁵35,00/month. It all depends on the location and package they get offered. Docent’s work is to keep the venue clean, well lit, tidy, and fresh for the events. Their job is very much a part of the job of event management. They are often hired by the event manager or a company that organizes the festival. The docent is expected to maintain the standard of cleanliness and tidyness of venue. Most of them are employed on an hourly basis.
What education do you need to be a docent?
The most important quality of being a good docet is patience. You need patience to guide and assist a student to make the right choices. It is impossible for you (coach) to always know what is the best thing for the client to do. There are times when the coach needs to defer to the expert, so that the clients can make an informed decision. The coaching process is very interactive. So you cannot be all the time at the front of the class. This will not only confuse the students but it will also turn them off. I have seen many students come back for coaching in their last year of college because they did not get what they wanted. But they never even bothered to tell the coaching team what was wrong. They had given up on the idea that they can solve their problem by themselves. On the other hand, you as a coaching client need the patience and flexibility to see the process through. Also you should have the discipline to stay focused on your goal.
What do museum docents do?
They create and maintain a ‘safe environment’ for the museum visitors. They act as a bridge between the visitors and other employees of the Museum. The museum employees are expected to maintain and create a friendly environment for visitors at all times. This requires them to be good role models. Thus, they are required to exhibit good manners and social skills. Their job is to make the experience for museum guests memorable. If they fail to do that in any way, it can make a lot of trouble for them and their colleagues.
Does working in a museum pay well?
In the first place you need to know your value to the organization and then figure out if you value it more that what the job pays. It is not a good idea to just jump into a job as it is very difficult to move from one job to another if that job does not pay enough. You may also find yourself in an undesirable position that will not allow you time to pursue your passion. That is where your real value will show. As a matter of fact, many people end up leaving their job because they are not happy with their jobs and are looking to explore their passion and creativity in something else. So it all depends on what you really want to do. If you want something different than what is offered to in your job, it might not be the right job for you. Find out what your interests are and what would you be good at doing. Also, find out how to measure the value of your work. Ask your supervisor how much you contribute to their organization.
What are some ways that one can make a good living as a docent?
A. I have listed a few suggestions here.
1) Do something that you really like.
2) Be friendly and social.
3) Be patient and teach.
4) Be prepared to do something that you don’t like.
5) If you are a good teacher, you will earn a lot of respect from your students. This will pay off in the long run.
6) Be available for a long time and offer good customer service.
7) Try to be the first in line when there are special events.
8) If you do a good job of it, people will notice and you will have opportunities to earn more money.
9) Be prepared to work on weekends, holidays, and in the evenings.
How do you get started?
1) Find out what type of job you want to have and what you want to do.
2) Talk to a few people who are already in the job and see how they are doing.
3) Look for a museum that you like and visit it.
4) Talk to the docents at the museum and see what they say about the job.
5) Research and find out what you need to know to be a docent.
Conclusion
ÂThe purpose behind using guides/docent programs within schools during science fair projects should not include money earned from selling their books at retail stores. This practice has been going around since its inception, which makes sense given what I learned about school funding today while listening (and looking) online between classes...(not really).
